All Quiet at Al Sufouh Tram
Although funding appears to have been agreed and contracts awarded, work still seems to be slow on the Al Sufouh Tram project. After the completion of the green line of the Dubai Metro the RTA were said to have stepped up the work on the Al Sufouh Tram project, but looking at the site down at JBR there does not seem to be much work going on right now. There has been some deep excavation which was done a while ago now but not really much sign of any further work happening. Perhaps in the coming months this will change but right now there are still rumours of funding problems,…

Al Sufouh Tram Still With Financing Problems
Arabian Business has reported that there are still problems with the funding for the al Sufouh Tram project as the RTA tries to ramp up the construction on the project that has been on hold for a while. In 2011, after the completion of the Dubai Metro green line, the focus changed to getting the tram project completed. The original completion date was scheduled to be in 2011 but after all the financial problems around the world the project went on hold. It is still early days in the financial recovery of Dubai and so financing of the project is still tentative. For the full Arabian Business report, see here.

Focus Now On The Al Sufouh Tram – RTA
Construction Week today reported that now that the green line of the Dubai Metro is open, the focus of the RTA is now to open the Al Sufouh tram network by November 2014. The project has really taken a backseat in the last few years with the investment in the Dubai Metro system and the concentration on getting the green line up and running. Although only 16 stations of the 18 on the green line are open, the remaining stations are ready for operation but are just waiting for projects in their respective areas to be completed so that there is sufficient demand.
